Somborne Braid / Teal

Somborne Braid was Inchyra's first trim, woven in pure cotton by the oldest passementerie mill in Britain, on looms that have been doing this work for generations.

The design was worked up from an antique French woven fabric: a delicate trail of small stylised flowerheads and buds on leafed stems, running the length of the braid in soft ecru against the colour ground, framed by fine dotted borders and a neat picot edge. Jacquard weaving builds a pattern thread by thread rather than printing it on the surface, and that is what gives the braid its depth - the design sits within the cloth rather than on it.

The braid is substantial enough to read clearly on a curtain leading edge, yet fine enough to edge a lampshade or a small cushion. Designed alongside the Somborne linens and wallpapers, it coordinates exactly across a scheme, and also works beautifully with linens from across the Inchyra collection, whether as a complementary accent or a deliberate contrast.
