Somborne Braid / Merlot
Somborne Braid was Inchyra's first trim, released in 2024. Woven in pure cotton by the oldest passementerie mill in Britain on looms that have been doing this work for generations. The design was worked up from an antique French woven fabric: a delicate trail of small stylised flowerheads and buds on leafed stems, running the length of the braid in soft ecru against the coloured ground, framed by fine dotted borders and a neat picot edge. Jacquard weaving builds a pattern thread by thread rather than printing it on the surface, and that is what gives the braid its depth - the design sits within the cloth rather than on it.
